Butte La Rose

Helen Boudreaux

Bonjour!
Gotta pass warning to you all, we’re not safer here than anyone anywhere else. Here in Butte La Rose crimes are committed against us by breaking into our homes and camps. Shootings happen that are way too close to us.
Whoever said “You’re never too old”? I’m grateful to sing in church Sundays and wherever else God leads me. I make wise cracks about my voice, but people enjoy my singing. All I need is my guitar. And proud to say I hold my own.
Musicians Russell Gonsolen and Ronny Bumgarde from New Iberia join me playing assisted living and nursing homes around Acadiana. Both play guitars and sing country. I sing Cajun also. We are “Helen Boudreaux and the Pirogue Cajun Band” – lol.
This past Saturday we played the Gazebo for New Iberia’s Farmers Market and Food Truck Festival Day that happens the second Saturday of each month. Running the show is Jane Braud, James Perez, Sharene Boudreaux and Jenny Francois. C’est fun mais cher.
I also play Cajun with Natial Daugereau and Pat Campbell with “The Trio Cadien.” Please God give me the strength and will and health. I will be playing May 4-6 for Louisiana’s Tourism Week at the Welcome Center, exit 121, Butte La Rose. Y’all come meet new friends.
Tiona No. 4: A few months after I’d been with Tiona, one day south of Houston, myself and a half dozen Tiona drivers were getting our tanks washed out at a Fina truck stop after having unloaded at a refinery in Texas City. We were in our own rigs in the parking lot each waiting for a dispatch run. There’s a small restaurant there for food and coffee and a hangout for drivers. But I chose to stay in my truck. This one morning in particular a couple of the drivers came to my truck and knocked on my door. I came out of my sleeper and sat in my drivers seat. I lowered my window and asked them what did they want. One answered they were going to get a motel room in Pasadena and would I want to go with them. I’d have access to the room, shower and their TV.
“Gosh” I said, “that’s nice of y’all, I really appreciate it, but it’s best not.” I told them how comfortable I was in my truck, but thanks. “Aw, come on, it’ll be nice.” I said this conversation is not getting us any where drivers, I’m doin’ my paper work, I’ll see y’all later and rolled up my glass. I could tell they were pissed. After a while there comes “Dollar Man” CB handle, another Tiona driver. He knocked on my door, and when I came out my sleeper and lower my window, he couldn’t wait to start telling me about his life, mostly that he did a lot of pimping. He told me he’s always had prostitutes working for him. He went on and on and said he made good money pimping because he knew the business. By then I just sat there with my mouth open because I did not know what he was talking about or was he trying to tell me something. To begin with, I did not know the man well enough for him to be discussing his dirty little business with me. As a trucker he said he’s even had women working truck stop parking lots as “lot lizards.” I did not want to hear all of that. He ran out of breath when saw my lack of interest and bid me farewell.
Next week, No. 5, final!
