An item on the agenda for today’s (Wednesday) monthly meeting of the St. Martin School Board could have a major impact on the configuration of schools in the Breaux Bridge community.
The cohort graduation rate at St. Martinville Sr. High School jumped from 63.5 percent in 2011 to 85.5 percent last year, marking the largest growth of any high school in Louisiana.
The cohort graduation rate is calculated by considering the number of students who start the 9th grade together and go on to graduate four years later.
Upon the recommendation of the project architect, Glenn Angelle, the St. Martin Parish Library Board voted unanimously, at last night's meeting (11-4-13), to award the building contract, for the new public library in Breaux Bridge, to Cangelosi Ward LLC, a well respected contractor in the Baton Rouge area.
Teche News publisher Ken Grissom announced that Mary LeBlanc Terry has returned to the Teche News. She will assume the duties of general manager, overseeing the daily operations of the paper. “Having Mary on board strenghtens the newspaper immeasurably,” Grissom said.

Titus Huddleston, B/M DOB: 5-8-1991, has a warrant issued by St Martinville Police for the crime of Simple Burglary.
Huddleston is possibly in the St Martinville, New Iberia or Lafayette area.
This is to inform you that the Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab has confirmed one West Nile virus positive Sentinel Chicken in Upper St. Martin Parish on 11-01-2013. The sample was collected on 10-28-2013. Location is in Cecilia. We are now following the CDC Expanded Transmission Protocol measures for West Nile virus in this area.

Bids for the construction of the new public library in Breaux Bridge were opened Thursday, Oct. 31, at a meeting at the parish library in St. Martinville.
Architect Glenn Angelle read aloud the proposals submitted by five contractors at precisely 2 p.m., the official deadline for submission.
